Privacy
What this site collects about you, who handles it, how long it is kept and what you can ask for.
Who is responsible
Opportunity Intelligence runs this site and is the data controller: the person responsible for any personal data it handles. You can write to [email protected] about anything on this page.
What is collected when you read the site
- No cookies. This site itself sets no cookies and shows no advertising.
- Server logs. Cloudflare serves the pages and, like any web host, may log technical details such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and protect the service.
- Visitor counts. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views, the sites visitors came from, and visitors' countries, browsers and devices. According to Cloudflare, it sets no cookies and does not track individual visitors. We see only totals, which tell us which articles are read.
If you sign up for email
- What we collect. Your email address and, only if you choose to answer, what you do. We use your address only to send new articles from Zabuni Intel. We use the answer to "what do you do" only to understand who reads the site and what to write next.
- On what basis. Your consent. You confirm it through the confirmation email Brevo sends you, and you can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
- Who stores it. Brevo stores the list and sends the emails for us.
- How long. We keep your address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We never sell it or give it to anyone other than Brevo.
- Where you signed up. We also record which of our sites and which page you signed up on, so we know which articles bring readers.
- Spam protection. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that it is filled in by a person, not a program. Turnstile looks at technical details of your browser for this check only.
If you write to us
Email to [email protected] is forwarded by Cloudflare to the inbox of the person who runs the site. We use your message only to answer it and keep it no longer than needed for that.
Companies that handle data for us
- Cloudflare: hosting the pages and forwarding email sent to [email protected], and the Turnstile spam check.
- Cloudflare: visitor counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics).
- Brevo: the email list and sending emails.
These companies may process data outside Kenya. Each one's own privacy policy explains how it protects the data.
Personal data in the procurement records
The articles analyse public procurement records published by Kenyan public bodies on the Public Procurement Information Portal (PPIP). Contact details are removed from that data before analysis and are never published. Some suppliers are individuals trading under their own name; individuals are never named, and other suppliers are named only after their records have been reviewed. A supplier who thinks an article is wrong can ask for a correction on the contact page.
Your rights
Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 you can ask what personal data about you we hold, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Write to [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
